Bioregional Herbalism
Bioregional is a way of understanding place through the lens of the land itself. Rather than focusing on borders or maps, it invites us to notice the natural rhythms around us from the climate, waterways and soil, to the plants that have grown here for generations. To think bioregionally is to develop a relationship with where we live, honoring the unique character of a place and allowing it to guide how we care for, harvest, and create.
Bioregional herbalism is the practice of working with the plants that grow naturally around us, guided by the belief that the land we live on offers the medicine we most need. It’s rooted in close relationship - listening to local ecosystems, honoring seasonal cycles, and learning from plants that have adapted to this place over time. By choosing local, bioregional herbs, herbalism becomes not just about healing the body, but about caring for the land and deepening our connection to home.
Here at Wild Raven Farm, we’re deepening our commitment to bioregional herbalism, working with New England ingredients first 🍁, and sourcing beyond our region only when we must. Because the land we live on should be the land that nourishes us.💚
While we grow and wild harvest many of the ingredients we use in our products today, we do need to outsource some of the more exotic oils, herbs, etc. With our upcoming expanded product line (stay tuned!), we were struggling with how far some of these ingredients travel, and how disconnected they are from our local plant allies. We have so many amazing plants and trees available to us locally in New England, and there are so many benefits to using ingredients grown in the soil that we share that we have decided to commit to using plants that are almost entirely sourced from our home region, many of them native species!
