A Small Corner Garden Inspired by Monty Don

Monty's inspiration led us to take a corner of a very small fenced in yard on 1/3 acre where we were renting and for $100 make a wildflower garden featuring half of a whiskey barrel pond in the middle.  Granted the bricks were already there that we inset as a border and we had wildflower seeds already which helped keep it under $100 for us.  Also keep in mind this was around 2020 with lower prices all around anyhow.  But all you need is to make sure you have exposed dirt for the seeds, then get a 1/2 whiskey barrel from a gardening center as well as a liner and then some aquatic plants!  If you are in Connecticut as well, we found that Van Wilgens Branford location has a nice selection of aquatic plants as they are surprisingly hard to find!

Gardener's World on BBC was our first introduction to Monty and we still enjoy watching new episodes to this day.  It has been incredible to watch his garden evolve over the years and has made us feel less alone in the struggle as he too contends with the aftermath of Mother Nature occasionally.

Around the World in 80 Gardens was hugely inspirational and also a surprising history lesson.

Big Dreams, Tiny Spaces was something that really inspired us as we were also at the time trying to make the most of a rather small 1/3 acre lot.  A lot of wonderful stories of personal transformation along with the yard as an added bonus!

Monty Don's American Gardens is another series that really shines a light on gardens and the story of how they came to be.
